In our third year, camp was bigger and better than ever! Between our training camp and our summer camp, we welcomed almost 300 youth from 14 communities throughout Israel and the West Bank. The connections and bonds that were formed between and among UP campers were deep and profound. New friendships blossomed daily on and off the field, and after camp, through social networks, email, and informal gatherings, many of our youth have continued to maintain and strengthen these important links as they have in the past.
This summer, camp season 2012, we were thrilled to have over 50 top ultimate players and coaches from all around the globe volunteer at Camp UP. They traveled from North America, Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and Australia, bringing a rare blend of inspiration and enthusiasm to every camp activity and interaction. Working closely with over 30 international Counselors in Training, the coaches, supported by the CIT’s, enabled 24 multicultural teams of Arab Israelis, Israeli Jews, and Palestinians to join together as one. Check out how our 5 values — mutual respect, integrity, fun, non-violence, and friendship come alive: Watch our slideshow from summer camp!
Just because camp has ended does not mean we have slowed down! Our coaches in the Middle East are working hard to organize and fund our year-round program, the backbone of UP in the Middle East. Team practices, a new UP league, quarterly HAT tournaments and a growing CIT leadership program are all in the works, and all kinds of help will be needed to make these ambitions a reality.
We feel amazingly lucky to have a dedicated and passionate group of staff members and volunteers whose hard work makes our program a reality and a success. We see our program flourishing in the years to come which keeps us excited to continue engaging our youth in both the sport of Ultimate and the community that has been fostered through Ultimate Peace.
