This past weekend, more than twenty UP staff and coaches came together to discuss this year’s upcoming programs. We would like to thank all of the volunteers for their participation at the meeting, and for their future contributions of time and energy as we work to make Ultimate Peace’s Year-Round Program more amazing this year!

The day started with coffee, pastries and tossing the disc in the courtyard, but soon the important discussions were under way.  After a few logistics, and a discussion of UP’s mission and five core values: Friendship, Non-Violence, Integrity, Mutual Respect and Fun, we broke into smaller groups to get to know each other better and engage in team-building exercises. Each group built their own school made out of toothpicks and marshmallows, then shared what they worked on with the entire group.

Finally, we discussed methods and strategies to make us better coaches and mentors, as well as ways to meet our goals and help UP continue to expand. We really focused on ways to recruit and retain female players!

After a delicious pasta meal cooked by UP’s own Scott, Dan, and Becca, we regrouped for some role-playing focused on enhancing our abilities to handle language barriers between coaches and players and a fun game of 5v5 ultimate in the schoolyard.

There is still a need for more volunteers for our practices and tournaments. If you or someone you know is interested, please follow this link! We are eager to continue coming together and strengthening our leadership and team-building skills to better meet the needs of UP participants!
