If you have not heard or seen already, Camp UP – Middle East was a huge success! Thousands of people around the world believed in the vision of uniting youth in areas of conflict through the character-building sport of Ultimate. As a result, hundreds of Palestinian and Israeli youth were happliy throwing and catching discs in July 2010 in Israel.

The events were so exciting and what we experienced was so rich and eye opening, we wanted to capture as much as possible to share with you and others. We have been posting pictures, video, articles, and reflections on the Ultimate Peace Facebook page as well – all worth watching.

I was rock-climbing with a friend yesterday, and staring at the back of her shirt for half the night. It was a Calvin & Hobbes cartoon, in which Calvin wonders, "Why don't we play Peace instead of War?" I admit that I don't hold out hope for an Ultimate camp solving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict overnight. But perhaps, through Ultimate, we can get a younger generation to ask this very same question of themselves. Maybe a sport that encourages listening to their "opponent's" side will cause these children to realize we are all striving for the same things and playing the same "game". Maybe we can plant a seed of peaceful thinking that will grow into a resolution.
